Overview

Typically passwords on a DCT are specific to each device. Alternately, a password can now be specified on Connect for an entire region and all the DCTs in that Region's areas will use that password. Not all regions in a company need to use a regional password, a mixed approach can be used.

Steps involved:

  1. Regions are set up on the Areas tab of Connect
  2. DCTs need to be updated to v1.67.235 or newer
    1. Note that a region can still have DCTs that have older software, but those DCTs won't get the password change update. The current password on all devices can still be viewed, see "Viewing passwords" below
  3. The regional password is set
  4. The password will propagate to the region's DCTs

Upon setting a region password, a message is sent to the units in the region to update their passwords.

Viewing Passwords

Go to the Passwords tab

The passwords page shows all the passwords for all the units in a single table. Each unit shows its actual last-reported password along with the desired regions password. The region password can differ from the current password because the software version is too old to support region passwords, or the unit has not managed to update to the latest region password yet. Units with old software versions will have to be updated to use remote passwords.

How it works

When the region password is updated, a message is sent to device to update the password. If the unit successfully updates it will acknowledge that the password has been changed and the server will update the "Current Password" to match the new password.
