Adding Engine Failure Status

From EMIT Controls

Overview

Currently, most panels use the “Engine running” signal from the CAT(r) panel to determine if the engine is running. It goes to DI-27 as a B1 or B2 digital input, and is used for some minor other logic.

CAT(r) has another signal, “Engine failure” that can be added to another digital input as an ‘A’ shutdown. This will prevent the annunciator from entering the start sequence if the CAT(r) panel is faulted (even though the engine would not start in any case).

Wiring

A relay can be added with the following wiring:**

  • A1+ : To batt+
  • A2- : To ADEM “Engine failure”, see table below
  • 11 “COM”: To ground
  • 14 “NO”: To any digital input

The following table shows the wire landing on different engines

Engine CAT Terminal
3500 A3 25
3500 A4 2-84
3600 A3 9
3600 A4 2-84
CG137 A4, WWF1..., WRX1... 55**
CG137 A4, ST8... 19

**For early CG137, the pin logic is opposite the others where 55 is driven high for shutdown. For this engine, pin 55 will go to A1+, and A2- will go to ground.

Config

The digital input chosen (connected to 14 on the relay above) can be configured:

  • Name: “ADEM FAULT” or similar
  • Type: Normally open
  • Action: Shutdown
  • Class: A

On an EIM this is at Annunciator -> Annunciator Setup -> Inputs Setup -> Digital Inputs

On a DCT this is at Settings -> Brain -> Inputs Setup -> Digital Inputs
